Ganpati festival and society  -
Ganpati is the one of the poplar festivals in Maharashtra. Ganpati festival has deep rooted in Maharashtrian  society , many families wait for this festival to come .Many may not celebrate celebrate diwali but they do celebrate Ganpati festival with all possible ways.
Social scientist researched on the reason behind popularity of the festival , according popular social worker Dr.Abhay Bang  Ganpati is popular because he is Ganpati leader of gana which means ganpati is leader of group .In democratic county like India where kingship was seen as burden this god appealed to the masses. Second reason he gave was Ganpati is described as intelligent god and it was created by non aryans in India which means Aryans adopted god created by Bahujans in India .Going by this link Ganpati is the first cultural phenomenon created by lower class and adopted by upper class , according to Dr.Bang in this way it has social significance also.
Today middle class mostly works in corporate companies, banks for them it is very easy to relate themselves with the god who had helped monk Vyasa to write Mahabharat. Also there is increasing tendency of eating good food in that way Ganesha also eats lots of Modaks so here is another similarity between devotees and their god.People generally choose their gods according to their attitude, these may be reasons  why ganpati festival is most liked in Maharastra.
