Jairam Ramesh's remark on toilets and temples -
Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh's remark that the country needs more toilets than temples has stirred a political row. While the BJP hit out at Mr Ramesh for hurting the 'fine fabric of faith and religion' in the country, his own party, the Congress, disapproved of it.On Friday Mr Ramesh had said, "I think toilets are more important than temples. No matter how many temples we go, we are not going to get salvation. We need to give priority to the toilets and cleanliness."
In country like India where religion plays dominant role in politics till now politicians do not make any hard hitting statements on religional reforms .Ramesh showed courage of On Friday.Temples are in this country work like big companies they get money more than they deserve , most of the money spent of the salaries of the priests and working staff and least spend for the society.Devotees blindly donate ornaments , jewellery and do not ask what temple authorities going do of the donations. Many temples runs some charitable trusts but the allegation on the trusts is that many of them are for namesake real purpose of those is to convert black money into white. However there are really hardworking temple trusts working for society but the number is less.In this context Jayram Ramesh madhe appropriate statement which is now misinterpreted by rightwing opposition parties like BJP and Shivsena. Now its responsibility of media to convey right message to the citizens ,ball is in now media's court.
